The museum offers a unique opportunity to trace the whole path of the development of the Cyprus capital. The exposition is chronologically built, which allows the visitor to make a real trip through the era. You begin your way with prehistoric times, about 3900 BC. Then step by step move forward. Each hall is a new round of history.
The Leventis Municipal Museum Museum was founded with the support of the A.G. Foundation Leventis in 1984 and opened his doors on April 20, 1989. Already in 1991, he received a prestigious prize of the European Museum of the Year.
Travel through the centuries
The museum occupies several floors. His collections amaze with their diversity. Here you will not find boring and monotonous windows. Ancient ceramics are adjacent to medieval cards. Luxurious Venetian outfits are replaced by Ottoman costumes. You will see household items and decorations of different eras. This helps to vividly imagine the life of the townspeople in the past.
What are the windows hide?
The exposition is located in a complex of ancient buildings. They themselves are valuable exhibits. Turning from the audience to the hall, you are immersed in history: ancient times, Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian and Ottoman periods, British rule and, finally, Nicosia from 1960 to the present of the capital of Cyprus appears as in the palm of his hand. Many exhibits were presented to the museum by private collectors. This makes the meeting truly unique. The museum lives and is constantly developing, organizing temporary exhibitions and educational programs.
