The Limassol District Court found a 77-year-old woman guilty of ten points of accusation of abuse of animals. The case caused public indignation after the dogs contained in unacceptable and cruel conditions were discovered in the territory belonging to the accused.
13 charges were charged to a woman, from which the court recognized ten to violations of violations of the law on the protection and well -being of animals. During the investigation, 11 dogs who lived in the unsanitary environment were found on the site, with signs of diseases and exhaustion.
This is not the first case associated with the same accused. Earlier, after the visit of volunteers and representatives of public services, dozens of other dogs, who were also in serious condition, were seized from her house.
The court recognized the testimony of witnesses to the prosecution reliable and rejected the arguments of the defense. The state prosecutor Panicos Avramidis presented evidence that convinced the court of guilt of the defendant without doubt.
Hearing on the issue of mitigating the punishment was appointed at the beginning of September.
The story began on July 17, 2020, when the state veterinary service filed a complaint with the police. At the first raid, three dogs were discovered in extremely poor condition: dehydrated, with wounds on paws suffering from chronic diseases. One of them, chained to bed, died, despite the attempts of veterinarians to save her. The other two were found locked in the toilet.
An employee of the veterinary service, who testified in court, described the state of animals as “terrifying”, noting that the house was stuffy, there was no ventilation, and the temperature in the summer reached critical meanings.
During the second search in August 2020, in a house located near the first site, eight more dogs were discovered - all in a similarly depressing state.
