One of the vessels involved in the Gaza International Follower was docked in Larnaca, according to government spokesman Konstantinos Letibiotis.
In a post on X on Friday morning, Mr Letibiotis said that the Cypriot authorities found that one of the vessels involved in the international fleece sailing towards the Gaza Strip chose to reach the territorial waters of the Republic of Cyprus.
After entering the Cypriot territorial waters, and after contacting the competent authorities, the crew eventually filed a request for mooring in the port of Larnaca, citing need for refueling and humanitarian reasons, the spokesman noted.
"The Republic of Cyprus has reacted immediately and responsibly, implementing the relevant protocols following the renovated procedures in force under related legislation and regulations. During the mooring process, it was reported for 2 occupants with chronic health problems. It was therefore expelled."
The government spokesman added that there were 21 passengers, citizens of various states, including EU and third -country member states. The competent services carried out all the necessary identification checks and documents and security documents, while an ambulance was called for precautionary reasons. During the exams by nurses, hospital was not necessary, he noted.
At the same time, he pointed out that the authorities of the Republic have taken care to meet the basic needs of the occupants, while providing the necessary assistance to consular issues and any demands of third -country nationals.
"The Republic of Cyprus acted from the first moment with the aim of protecting human life and respect for international humanitarian law, consistently implementing its obligations arising from national and European law," the spokesman concluded.
