July 20 celebrates International Chess Day - a holiday uniting millions of lovers of this intellectual game around the world. The initiative of its institution belongs to the World Chess Federation (FIDE), which was founded in Paris exactly on this day - July 20, 1924. Since then, chess has become not just leisure, but an important element of culture, education and international communication.
The Cyprus Chess Federation (KISO) has been valid almost since the creation of an independent state - it was founded in 1961. The organization aims to promote chess among all ages throughout the country. The Federation combines chess clubs and communities, contributing to the fascination of the game and the development of players' skill.
Today, Kiso includes nine associations and has more than 1000 chess players - from novice enthusiasts to experienced players and coaches. The Cyprus Chess Federation is part of FIDE. KISO Chairman - Criton Tornaritis.
The Federation regularly organizes and supports tournaments and championships throughout the country. In the coming weeks, it is planned: • August 3-the Cyprus Championship for Rapid Shakhmatam, • August 31-the championship of the blitz-shahmatians, • September 7-the third stage of the Grand Prix of the FIDE, • September 19-the championship among Cyprus chess clubs.
These events not only contribute to the popularization of chess, but also enable participants to demonstrate their skills, exchange experience and establish new contacts in the chess community.
