Amount of €55 million in "THALEIA 2021-2027" for the creation and upgrading of parks says the Ministry of Finance

With the aim of green development, sustainable mobility and the upgrading of citizens' quality of life, the Political Cohesion Program "THALEIA2021-2027", foresees a fund of approximately €55 million for the creation and upgrading of parks throughout Cyprus, reports the General Directorate of Development (GDA) of the Ministry of Finance.

In a statement, the GDA states that these are important development projects, which offer safe, functional and sustainable public spaces for rest, social interaction and contact with nature and adds that "parks are crucial interventions for the sustainable development and quality of life of citizens, as beyond their environmental benefits, they function as meeting places, strengthening the cohesion of communities and cultivating a sense of participation and familiarity between citizens and families".

At the same time, he adds, they are places for entertainment and stress relief, especially in the urban centers of cities, where intense rhythms of everyday life are observed.

Regarding 10 of the parks implemented within the framework of the "THALEIA" Program, with the co-financing of the EU, the state budget and the Local Government Authorities, these are the regeneration of the Old GSP into a Green and Recreation Area in Nicosia, with a total budget of €27.3 million, completed in early 2025 and the linear Environmental Park Awareness raising implemented in the Gialia River, with a budget of €5.6 million. 

Also, the ongoing remodeling of the area of ​​Patticheios Park in Larnaca, with a budget of €6.6 million, the creation of the Salina Municipal Park in Larnaca, with a budget of €3.2 million and the creation of a Multifunctional Park in Tsiakkileros, in the province of Larnaca, with a budget of €2.3 million.

Also included are the configuration of the Park on Gauguin Street in Limassol which was completed in August 2024, with a total budget of €2.3 million, the construction of the Park as well as the Eagle Stadium in the Municipality of Limassol which was completed in May 2025 with a budget of €1.1 million, the creation of an Urban Multifunctional Park in Ayia Napa, with a budget of €4.3 million, the creation of a Sports Field of Activities and Healthy Employment in Sotira, with a budget of €0.9 million and the creation of a Linear Park in Acheritou, with a budget of €1 million.
