The proposal of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, for support measures for citizens whose vehicle suitability certificate has been canceled due to non-replacement of an airbag, assuming that they have already arranged an appointment, was approved by the Council of Ministers during Wednesday's session.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the decision is part of the Government's social policy framework and aims to facilitate the citizens, who showed consistency by scheduling the replacement of the defective part in time, but are affected due to the delays in the delivery of spare parts to the companies.
According to data provided by the companies to the Department of Road Transport, until October 31, 2025, the certificate of suitability has been suspended for 10,782 vehicles, while 4,327 appointments have already been arranged for replacement until the end of January 2026.
In particular, the Council of Ministers approved the granting of free public transport tickets to all vehicle owners who have arranged an appointment to take corrective measures until the end of January 2026, their vehicle is immobilized and they do not have another vehicle, the one-off financial support of €100 per week to the owners of the vehicles who have arranged an appointment to take corrective measures until the end of January 2026 and belong to the EEE beneficiary categories, low pensioners, single parents and those with many children.
It also approved one-off financial support of €100 per week to disabled vehicle owners who have an appointment for remedial measures by the end of January 2026, their vehicle is immobilized and they do not own another vehicle.
It is clarified that support will be provided upon application to the Department of Road Transport and after it has been established that the prescribed conditions are met.
This decision reinforces the state's effort to protect the daily life of citizens, without overlooking the main goal: ensuring road safety and the protection of human life, which are a non-negotiable priority of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, it is stated at the end.
