You will never find three numbers on car numbers in Cyprus - 666, 13 and 69. The reason is in undesirable associations from residents. But in some cases, these combinations can still be seen on car signs.
In 1998, the police stopped issuing cars to the car with a digital combination of 666. In 2002 - with combinations 13 and 69.
The unspoken ban of these three numbers followed after the complaints of local residents who were worried that these numbers would bring them misfortune.
In 2016, the Minister of Transport Marios Dimitriadis issued a decree on the conduct of auctions or a direct purchase of license plates. The text has the current practice: “The numbers offered to participate in the auction are in the range from 1 to 999, with the exception of numbers 13, 69, 666”.
However, this does not mean that 13 and 69 you will not meet at all on license plates in Cyprus. Only combinations 013 and 069 are prohibited, because on the sign they can be printed without zero. As part of other numbers, both 13 and 69 are found. Combinations 113, 133, 213, 696, 369 may well get to the license plate contrary to all superstitions.
