Greek diplomatic sources say the Cyprus issue will likely be in the first quarter of 2026

Greek diplomatic sources have expressed the assessment that in the first quarter of 2026 an informal five-party meeting on the Cyprus issue may take place in New York.

The same sources estimate that the election of Tufan Erhiurman to the leadership of the Turkish Cypriot community has given new momentum to the process and added that there is a willingness to continue the MOUs and to have a new enlarged conference in the near future. At the same time, the same sources remind that the Cyprus issue is an absolute priority of Greek foreign policy.

As far as Greek-Turkish relations are concerned, the same sources estimate that within the first quarter of 2026 the Supreme Council of Greece-Turkey Cooperation will be held, while in the same period a Greece-US Strategic Dialogue with the presence of Marco Rubio in Athens is also determined.

With reference to the latest movements of Libya, the same sources point out that with regard to the issue of demarcation, the president of the House of Representatives of Libya has an approach that is favorable to his country and everyone can express maximalist positions, but these issues are resolved based on International Law.
