New season opens at Nicosia gallery

Gloria Gallery opens its new season with a painting exhibition by George Kotsonis, who will show paintings, mosaics and sculptures.

Considered as one of the most significant and well-known Cypriot painters, Kotsonis has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions both in Cyprus and abroad. His works are found in private and public collections and today he lives and works in Paphos.

Speaking about the artist’s work, head of cultural services at Limassol municipality Dr Natia Anaxagorou said: “Giorgos Kotsonis crystallises the vision of a modern yet classical artist. In his work, Western European currents and Byzantine influences meet in a creative blend, resulting in a stylistic osmosis and inventiveness, where form-shaping balance and perfection is paramount. His drawing skill is channelled into a dialectically structured and consciously controlled expression. Each brushstroke is placed on the canvas with reverent care, and each accentuation with precision, allowing the colour to emerge as rich and complex through the successive pulses and vibrations of an endless layering process.”

Following the end of Kotsonis’ exhibition, another local artist will take over the walls of the gallery. Kristia Andreou will present a solo exhibition titled Nostalgia at Gloria Gallery, opening on September 20, showcasing a series of paintings.
