The veterinary service of Cyprus destroyed eight lambs and goats, which were found in a truck when trying to leave the buffer zone to the territory controlled by the Republic of Cyprus.
This was reported by the Customs Administration.
Animals had to be strewn, since it was impossible to establish their origin - they did not have the necessary documents and marking, the department explained.
The customs department also stated that together with the police would continue the investigation. The authorities intend to find out whether these animals were brought from the occupied territories or grown illegally on farms located in the buffer zone.
Recall that in the early morning of June 4, customs officers received information from the police about a 42-year-old man who, presumably, illegally transported cattle through the buffer zone, violating the rules for the intersection of the so-called “green line”.
The man was detained on suspicion of committing an offense. Together with the truck and animals, he was taken to the police station in Latsii for further investigation.
Later, the vehicle with animals was transferred to the veterinary service, where experts tried to establish the origin of livestock. However, at noon of the same day, employees of the customs department were notified that lambs and goats were destroyed - due to the inability to confirm their legal origin.
