On the afternoon of Saturday, October 11, two fatal accidents occurred in Cyprus within an hour and a half of each other. In one case, during a collision between two cars, the victim was a woman sitting in the passenger seat, in the second, a man crossing the road.
TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN THE VILLAGE OF AYA VARVARA
In the village of Ayia Varvara, 80-year-old Andriana Lefteri, who permanently lived in the UK, died during a head-on collision between two cars that occurred at about 13:00. She was in the passenger seat of a car driven by a 49-year-old driver. The second car was driven by a 65-year-old woman. Two victims of the accident were taken to Nicosia hospital. Doctors pronounced Andriana dead. The woman driving the second car was hospitalized.
ACCIDENT IN PERA ORINIS
The second accident occurred in the village of Pera Orinis at about 14:30. A car driven by a 19-year-old driver hit a 71-year-old Lakatamia man as he crossed the road. The victim in the accident was taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The victim of the accident is Dimitris Skoufaris.
The young driver of the car who caused the collision was tested for the content of alcohol and drugs in his blood, which gave a zero result. He was arrested on a court warrant for questioning. He was then released pending trial.
