On Thursday, May 7, the Cyprus police reported the arrest of a man caught for cutting a kangaroo in the Famagusta area.
According to the police, the incident became known about the tip. Arriving in the parking lot of an apartment building, police officers found two men with knives who cut the animal. Seeing the police, one of the criminals disappeared. The second was detained. It turned out to be a 36-year-old man.
During the inspection of the scene, plastic bags with divided parts of the animal, as well as an ax and five knives were found. During the interrogation, the remaining suspect said that the animal was a kangaroo, which he received from a third party in Paralymni. An employee of the veterinary service confirmed that the remains belong to the divided adult kangaroo.
The packages confiscated. The 36-year-old man was taken to the police station of Derinia, where they found that he was illegally living in Cyprus, since his petition for asylum was rejected in 2022.
He was taken into custody after issuing the warrant to his arrest. The case is in the investigation stage.
