Irinis Street or World Street is one of Limassol's most characteristic in the historical center. It preserves its original appearance better than others, which has acquired at the beginning of the twentieth century.
Under the British, the street was called Victoria-Street (in honor of Queen Victoria), although the area itself has been known as Marafevtogitonia since ancient times. This name comes from the fact that merchants and wealthy merchants from the villages of the Marafas valley used to settle here. Signs of former luxury can be seen in the architecture of many colorful buildings that stand along the street. Irinis. Built of stone, with characteristic arched doorways, richly decorated with stone carvings and narrow balconies with forged lattices typical of colonial architecture, houses here really represent a real monument of history.
Today this area is a real pearl of the historical center of Limassol.
