Cyprus sent 1,200 tons of humanitarian aid in gas

On Monday evening, August 18, a load of humanitarian aid weighing 1,200 tons in the framework of the Cyprus plan of Amaltei went from the Limsol port, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

According to the Foreign Ministry, assistance includes food to support baby food and comes from Cyprus, Malta and a number of international partners.

The mission is carried out through the UN-2720 and Junops mechanism, with the participation of the international humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen as a final contractor and distributor. All deliveries are coordinated within the UN system.

The cargo will be crossed through the Ashdod port and distributed inside the gas without additional safety inspections at the arrival point.

According to the ministry, 700 tons of the humanitarian cargo come from Cyprus through the Cyprusaid mechanism, another 500 tons - donations of the government of Malta and humanitarian organizations from the USA, Italy, Kuwait and the sovereign Maltese order. The key contribution of the UAE government is also noted.

Cyprus expressed gratitude to all states and organizations participating in the operation, emphasizing that assistance is provided in accordance with the international humanitarian law and under the auspices of the UN.

“Our unchanging position is the need to increase the safe and unhindered stream of humanitarian aid on a wide scale for the civilian population of Gaza,” the statement said.

Foreign Minister Konstantinos Combos noted that the mission is being implemented “in close cooperation with international partners and humanitarian organizations” and confirms the active role of Cyprus in international efforts to provide assistance.

Major of the reserve, a representative of the press service of the Israeli army (IDF) for relations with the Russian-speaking media, Anna Ukolova told how the Cyprus humanitarian is distributed.

“Humanitarian assistance includes food, fuel and medicines. Over the past 22 months, various options for supplying GUM supply to the GAZ sector have been created. At the moment, the most effective - this is ground - through the checkpoint Kerem Shalom and other gearboxes in the gas sector passes with humanitarian aid for the residents of the sector. More than 100 trucks call on the territory of Gaza per day. On Israeli checkpoints, all goods are inspection for security purposes and after that pass to specially organized points of the selection inside the gase.

From these points, various international organizations take cargo, which are responsible for the spread of goods among the population. The process of the Israeli Min defense - Cogat - coordinator of government actions in the territories is engaged in coordination of the process.

Inside the gases are liability for distribution on international organizations.

Among them are representatives of the UN (for example, Bapor UNRWA), WCK and GHF. GHF a couple of days ago even launched an online application for registration for help.

One of the problems that interferes with the effective distribution of GUM help is Hamas. There are evidence that the Hamas militants seized help, attacked the truck column and took the products to their tunnels for their militants and commanders. Therefore, Israel has tried various ways to help assistance in order to avoid the entry of goods into the hands of Hamas.

In the last few weeks, some of the goods are discharged directly to the areas where the inhabitants of the Gaza from the air live. More than 100 pallets with products can be delivered through the air per day.

Israel has made and makes great efforts so that GUM helps to get into gas.

Since October 2023, 1957019 (as of August 17) tons of help was delivered to Gaza through the Israeli checkpoint. ”
