Cyprus was among the European Union with the highest indicators of minor foreigners. There are 17.2%on the island. In 2024, 7.5 million people under the age of 18 had no citizenship of their residence in the EU. This amount is 9.4% of the total number of minors in the European Union.
On average, in the EU among minors who do not have citizenship of the country of residence, 27% were younger than five years old, 29.8% - aged five to nine years, 27.7% - aged 10 to 14 years, and 15.6% were from 15 to 17 years.
The highest share of minors who do not have citizenship of the country of residence was recorded in Luxembourg (45.7%). It is followed by Austria (21.9%), Malta (19.3%), Cyprus (17.2%). The rating also included Switzerland with 27.3% and Liechtenstein with 24%. On the contrary, the lowest share of stateless minors of the country of residence was recorded in Slovakia (0.4%), Poland (0.8%) and Romania (0.9%).
This statistics indicate several important trends. Cyprus is one of the leaders in the number of minors of the country of residence, which emphasizes its role as an important migration center, especially for families. This also indicates possible challenges for the education system, social integration and long -term migration policy. The general situation in the EU reflects the large -scale nature of migration and the fact that children with migration background make up a noticeable part of the population.
Children who are born in the families of immigrants and grow in an environment that is not native to their parents are called children of the third culture. They form a new culture - a mixture of the one that they inherited from their parents, and the one in which they are brought up. This can be manifested in the language, gestures, worldview and personality characteristics.
Studies prove that children of the third culture have such qualities as high adaptability, an open view of things, the ability to solve problems. They demonstrate the best skills of interpersonal communication than their peers. They speak more languages, are more interested in education and have a low level of divorces.
On the other hand, few are able to maintain close relations with members of their family. Many feel divorced from their roots. Children whose families often move can remain injured by a constant change in the situation for life.
In conditions of globalization, the number of people who moved away from the old categories of national culture is growing rapidly. In 1990, 150 million people around the world lived in the wrong country in which they were born. By 2020, this number almost doubled.
