December 2025 is shaping up to be a particularly good month in terms of rainfall for Cyprus so far, with repeated barometric systems giving significant amounts of rain across much of the island, the Meteorological Department said in a statement.
"In several areas, the total rainfall of the month until today approaches or even exceeds the normal levels for the season, locally improving the hydrological conditions, without, however, substantially changing the overall picture of the water balance", it is added.
"12/30 is typical, during which the average daily amount of rain reached 17.9 mm, with locally greater amounts" it is noted.
Finally, it is reported that the barometric low system affecting the island since Tuesday night is expected to continue to give significant rain throughout today (12/31), while until 22:00 tonight a warning for rain, storms and very strong winds remains in effect.
