Overnight, Israel received, through the International Committee of the Red Cross, one of the last six bodies of hostages in the hands of Hamas or its allies in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Israeli military, the coffin containing the remains was handed over to soldiers inside the Palestinian enclave, and taken to the national forensic service in Tel Aviv for identification.
Earlier, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, and the al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, had announced that they would hand over the remains of a hostage.
According to Hamas, the body was found during yesterday's day, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
If the remains are confirmed to be those of a hostage, it would leave another five dead Israelis to be handed over to complete the first phase of the peace deal.
