On August 25, the USS Mitscher Navy destroyer arrived at the Limassol port. This was reported by the US Embassy in Nicosia.
The ship is part of the destroyers fleet with the system of the Ijis guided missile system “Arly Burk” and is named after Admiral Mark A. Mitcher, who commanded the US aircraft carrier’s operational group on the Pacific Front in the Second World War.
The embassy emphasized that Mitcher was a “naval aviation pioneer” and played a key role in the battles under Midue and in Leita Bay.

According to the diplomatic representative office, USS Mitscher left Norfolk (Virginia) on July 25 "to contain opponents, strengthen America’s security and protect economic prosperity." During the parking in Cyprus, the ship sailors will be granted a vacation on the shore.
This is already the second US Navy ship in the last days, which arrived at Cyprus: last week the destroyer of the USS Arleigh Burke entered the port.
In addition to strengthening naval ties, Cyprus this year received the right to directly purchase American military equipment after joining three Pentagon programs: a military sales program (FMS), an excess military property program (EDA) and provisions for assistance within the framework of a security strategy.
