Athens today celebrates the eighty -one years since the liberation of the Greek capital from the German occupation troops with wreaths, wreath laying on the unknown soldier, and the flag was raised on the Acropolis.
On Thursday, October 12, 1944, and while the Germans had not yet been able to evacuate the city and the people of the capital rushed into the Athenian roads, cheering for its liberation.
The flag was raised on the Acropolis Sacred Rock in the presence of the President of the Republic Costas Tasoula and representatives of the political and military leadership.
