Many people know Limassol as a noisy seaside city. But he has his own secret green artery. This is the Hermasya River. It flows directly through the tourist area. But did you know that this river has a second, completely wild life hidden in the mountains?
The Germasoya River is a living example of how nature and the city can coexist. She originates on the slopes of the Troodos mountains and carries her waters to the sea through one of the most lively areas of Limassol. Her path is the story of turning a stormy mountain stream into a calm city river. A key role in this transformation is played by a huge dam.

The main attraction of the river is, without a doubt, the dams of the German. It was built in 1968. So a large reservoir was created, which became an important source of water for all Limassol. Today it is a real blue oasis over the city. They come here to enjoy silence. You can take a walk along the crest of the dam. From here, amazing views of the artificial lake and mountains open.
City artery: shadow of eucalyptus
Below the dam, the river gradually loses its wild appearance. In the city line, its channel is in some places canalize, but closer to the coast, it again acquires greens. By the sea, there is a coastal park of Dasudi - a real pearl of Limassol. The name is translated from Greek as a “forest”, and this is a really small eucalyptus forest, planted under the British. Shady paths are laid here, where it is nice to walk with strollers, run or ride a bicycle. In the heat, the coolness of trees becomes a real salvation. Dasudi is a light coastal Limassol, a favorite vacation spot for both local and tourists.
But to see the true character of the river, you need to go upstream, behind the dam. There, in the area of the village of Phoenicaria, Germasoya appears in his wild appearance. The river winds between the hills, forming small backwaters and thresholds. Here you can find secluded places for a picnic. You can just sit by the water, listening to her murmur. This is a completely different Cyprus - quiet, natural and very real.
