Since October 3, 2025, the suspension of the validity of the Certificate of Certificate (MOT) for vehicles that have not implemented the withdrawal of defective airbags, according to a statement from the Department of Road Transport (Tom) of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Projects, is implemented.
The suspension relates to vehicles for which the 8 -month deadline set by Circular 8/2025 in February.
The first wave of suspensions will be applied from 3 to 30 October 2025, with a different date per brand of vehicle, based on the data submitted by the manufacturers.
Influenced owners can see the deadline for recall for their vehicle on the ministry's website: www.gov.cy/mtcw
Despite the extensive information campaigns, about 16,900 vehicles - that is, 20% of the original number of 81,000 - have not yet been replaced by the airbag.
Toyota and Honda have the largest non -response number, with 5,000 and 2,000 vehicles, respectively.
Tom makes it clear that there will be no extension in cases where no appointment has been closed.
However, for those who have already scheduled an appointment in October, replacement will be allowed until the date of the appointment, but not later than October 31, 2025.
The 8 -month deadline was adopted as an exception from the general 18 -month period due to the severity of the risk, as in some cases the manufacturers had issued instructions for immediate immobilization of vehicles.
In addition, Tom invites owners who find it difficult to identify an authorized workshop or spare parts, to contact the Department's call center for guidance.
The ministry recalls that the non -use of the vehicles underlying had been introduced from the outset, as the replacement of airbags is an essential measure of protecting drivers, passengers and third parties.
