All things potato at upcoming fest

September will have its fair share of fun events and local festivals and the community of Xylofagou is busy preparing for the next edition of the International Potato Festival. Celebrating the region’s produce and all things potato-related, the festival will gather farmers, producers, artists and visitors to the outdoor area of KYPEP Packing Facility – a potato packing company – on September 20. Returning upgraded, the event promises big surprises, flavours and plenty of entertainment.

Just before sunset, the festival doors will open with music and dance filling the neighbourhood streets, culminating in a parade to the festival site. The evening’s musical programme will feature sounds of Cyprus, the Aegean and Asia Minor, brought to life through dancing groups and traditional instruments. A highlight of the event is expected to be the union of singers Glykeria and Melina Kana who will be accompanied by Haris Makris and Dimitris Mesimeris.

Apart from the entertainment programme, the festival will, of course, include a produce exhibition and a line-up of stands cooking delicious potato-based recipes. Chef Stavris Georgiou will do a live cooking demonstration offering his own gourmet potato creations and delicacies. Finally, an agricultural exhibition will also be set up showcasing details of the potato farming industry and of traditional crafts.
