The first KVN was held in Cyprus - this is how the “Bulletin of Cyprus” for the first time in its history became a media sponsor, illuminating not only the event itself, but actively taking part in meetings before and after the main performance. The island changed, our newspaper also changed. The scope was already different. For example, did you know that in 2000 the Miss Universe contest was held in Cyprus? There were no tickets, they cost half the average monthly salary - but the inhabitants of Cyprus could not skip such an event! For the first time in Cyprus, in a positive way, they started talking on TV screens around the world.
We also had our important events. Since January 1, the newspaper - now officially - the library has opened. Books there were issued before, but now a program was written and tested, which allowed the records of readers and books. Digitalization ... At that time, such systems were not yet generally accepted, so the “Bulletin of Cyprus” was, without exaggeration, an innovator.
Employees of the newspaper began to walk around restaurants and write reviews. This was also an innovation, in Cyprus there were no Russian -speaking restaurant critics at that time. For the first time, the newspaper began to interview representatives of the municipal authorities, and indeed, to publish their own interviews and reports from important events.
Previously, this appeared on the pages of the "Herald of Cyprus" no more than 5-10 times a year, and now such publications have become weekly.
Look at several materials of those times - we scanned from the archives. Pay attention to the caricature of customs on one of the news pages. At that time, it was relevant - from the end of the nineties, money was imported in Cyprus in Cyprus (and banks received it with pleasure) - neither in Cyprus or other countries in those years cash did not raise issues. Cyprus flourished, and the Russians became the main and most expensive guests. Well, the "Bulletin of Cyprus" was at the right time in the right place. Home Internet was still a rarity, so it was possible to bring an advertisement to dear guests only through Russian-speaking newspapers.
