Did you know that the relatively small Cyprus is home to several hundred species of birds? Today we will talk about one of them - the robin.
The robin (also known as the robin, zorka, zoryanka and alder) is a migratory bird. She is one of the first to return to the northern regions. Males are brighter colored than females. But old females may hardly differ in color from the male. Juveniles are mottled brown and white with gradually appearing orange spots.
A rare occurrence among songbirds: both sexes sing. But females have a less varied range of notes. Males sing in the evening even at dusk. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful bird songs.
By the way, the robin is the most common “educator” of cuckoo chicks. She is also the national bird of Great Britain and the symbol of Christmas!
The legend about the appearance of a spot on a bird’s throat from a drop of Christ’s blood is described in the story “Redneck” by the famous Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf. This legend also begins the detective novel by the Norwegian author Jo Nesbø “Redneck”, recognized as the best Norwegian crime novel of all time.
