Residents of Limassol report harassment and attacks they suffered near a popular hotel in eastern Limassol. The police promise to increase patrols.
According to the Germasogeia District Police Department, three incidents took place, and the police received one official report and two complaints. All attacks occurred between October 16 and October 19 in the evening hours.
All victims reported the same behavior from their attackers: while walking along a coastal footpath in the eastern part of Limassol, the women were accosted by two unknown men. In one case, the attacker tried to hug a woman against her will. In another, a man pushed a woman, and then, together with his partner, tried to cover her mouth with a handkerchief and strangle her. However, the woman resisted, and the attackers fled, fearing the attention of passers-by.
Police are investigating the incidents and intend to increase patrols in the area.
Here is a short reminder of what a woman should do if she is attacked or harassed: - Attract attention: shout loudly to attract the attention of passers-by and scare away the attackers. Noise, loud screams, falling objects can help. - Run towards people and to a lit place (cafe, store, hotel, etc.). If there is a road nearby, signal drivers to stop. Call the police on 112, tell them where you are, what happened, what the attacker looked like and where he fled. Save evidence: do not wash your hands or change clothes if there was physical contact. Don't delete photos, messages, or videos. All this can help the investigation. - File a report with the police. - Call the hotline 1440 (available 24 hours a day), here you can get free psychological and legal assistance. - Inform your loved ones. Don't be alone with your experiences and traumas. Support from friends and family can help you cope with stress.
We wish you never need this reminder.
