There was a tragedy in Nicosia, which shocked the inhabitants of the Palluriotiss area: a 62-year-old man killed his ex-wife right in front of their daughter. The victim was 58-year-old Afsan Mohammati from Iran.
According to police, the former spouses continued to live under one roof, which regularly led to quarrels and tense situations. Another verbal skirmish on Thursday night ended in a bloody drama. At about 2:30 in the morning, the man grabbed a metal scrap and inflicted a deadly blow to the woman's head. Their adult daughter became a witness to the crime, and her baby was sleeping in the next room at that moment.
The victim was urgently delivered to the editor -in -chief of the city’s hospital, but on the way to the medical institution she died. Employees of the Directorate for the Investigation of Murders and investigators who conducted the initial investigative actions and the reconstruction of the incident arrived at the scene.
The 62-year-old man pleaded guilty of interrogation and already appeared before the court, who decided to detain him for eight days. Despite the fact that the neighbors characterized the family as calm and never noticed conflicts, sources surrounded by a couple note that the scandals between the former spouses were a daily phenomenon after a divorce. Both refused to leave the joint house, which caused permanent clashes.
The police continues the investigation of the case as a deliberate murder and collects additional testimonies from the closest environment of the family. This case was added to the alarming statistics of femicids in Cyprus, which in recent years have become a serious social problem.
On the same day on the track of the Planopo - Per Orinis, another shocking incident occurred. The quarrel between two drivers-62-year-old and 36-year-old-grew into a cruel attack.
After stopping cars, a 36-year-old man went to the opponent’s car and hit him in his face. The victim lost consciousness and was found by other drivers in his car with severe injuries of the head and face. He was taken to the Glavnzu Hospital Nicosia, where he is in critical condition, connected to the apparatus of artificial ventilation of the lungs in the intensive care unit.
In relation to the 36-year-old attacker, a case was initiated on the fact of attempted murder and serious bodily harm. The Nicosia court decided to detain him for six days.
Both incidents in one day caused a wide public outcry. Experts note that cases of domestic violence and aggression on the roads are becoming an increasingly alarming signal for Cyprus society, where the issue of prevention of violence and protection of victims is acute.
