A 63-year-old woman was arrested in Limassol on suspicion of murdering her husband.

On Saturday, December 28, a woman was detained in Limassol on suspicion of murdering her husband with a kitchen knife. She denies her guilt, claiming that 62-year-old Vitaly Shostak inflicted the fatal blow on himself.

The incident happened at around 9.40pm on Friday when the woman called 911 and asked for an ambulance. Police found Shostak dead in the living room with a stab wound to the chest. The kitchen knife was seized as evidence.

The woman was arrested early Saturday morning. When she was arrested, she reportedly stated, “I didn’t do anything like that.” She told police it was their birthday on Friday and they were opening gifts from their son, who lives in the UK, when they got into an argument after drinking alcohol.

A neighbor who came to the noise reported that he saw the victim covered in blood. The Limassol District Court remanded the woman in custody for eight days. Police are continuing their investigation and plan to also review CCTV footage.
