Eastern Mediterranean energy resources can be safe alternatives to Europe, through synergies with countries in the basis of international law, the President of the Republic said.
In his intervention at the European Political Community Summit in Copenhagen, President Christodoulides pointed out that the European Union still depends on third parties by 60% of its energy needs, a fact - advocated - that makes it vulnerable to geopolitical developments, as it has made it clear.
He said the aim should be to enhance Europe's strategic autonomy and competitiveness, as well as to reduce addictions, issues that would - as he said - be part of the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The President of the Republic also indicated the need to expand European trade relations to include India and the Gulf countries, expressing the readiness of Cyprus, as a southeast end of Europe and a natural bridge to the Middle East, to play a central role.
President Christodoulides co -signed in Copenhagen two important declarations: the first concerns the treatment of migration and the second, the establishment of a pan -European anti -drug alliance.
