The ceremony to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the head of the opposition in Venezuela, María Corina Machado, took place last night.
The award was received by Machado's daughter as she was unable to attend.
At the ceremony, a speech was read by the awardee, with Maria Korina Machado noting that democracies must be ready to fight for freedom in order to survive.
She mentioned, at the same time, that the award is of great importance, not only for her country but also for the whole world, emphasizing at the same time that democracy is absolutely necessary for peace.
