Palmas for incident in Mammari: The Turkish army does not respect human rights

The Turkish army does not respect the human rights of the residents of Mammari and Denia, and the surrounding areas, and is taking actions that undermine efforts to create a positive climate for the resumption of talks on the Cyprus issue, the Minister of Defense said in the "Morning Itinerary".

Referring to yesterday's provocations by the Turkish army against Greek Cypriot farmers in the area, Vassilis Palmas pointed out that this is a sensitive critical zone in which such incidents are repeated.

The Republic of Cyprus, stressed the Minister of Defense, has an obligation to ensure the safety of its citizens and to be on constant alert as long as the occupation continues.

He also referred to UNFICYP's position, noting that it has always followed a policy of equal distances, although he emphasized that in cases of clear violations there could be a clearer position.
