Outdoor cinema nights continue in Limassol

Outdoor cinema nights continue in Limassol

The much-anticipated Rialto Cinema event returns this year, transforming the SEK parking area behind the Rialto Theatre into an atmospheric open-air cinema. From Wednesday to the following Tuesday, cinephiles in Limassol will have the opportunity to enjoy a carefully curated selection of films that have captivated audiences and critics alike from all corners of the world.

Up first is the French film Un Triomphe on Wednesday. Directed by Emmanuel Courcol, this French production was an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 2020 and won the Best European Comedy Award from the European Film Academy. This profoundly humane and heartfelt comedy, inspired by true events, features Cesar-winning actor Kad Merad.

Two days later, on Friday, the American film Fremont will take over the outdoor screen. The film by Babak Jalali won the Best Director Award at Karlovy Vary, as well as the Jury Prize at the Deauville Film Festival and the John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirit Awards. The story begins with Donya who works for a Chinese fortune cookie factory. Formerly a translator for the US military in Afghanistan, she struggles to put her life back in order and in a moment of sudden revelation decides to send out a special message in a cookie.

This Saturday night, another French film will be shown. Innocent was nominated for 11 Cesar Awards and focuses on the son of an older woman who works as a prison drama teacher. When he finds out that his mother is about to marry a convicted robber who is soon to be released, he freaks out and creates a plan to protect his mother.

Next week’s screenings will begin on Monday with the Greek film Magnetic Field, a film that won Yiorgos Goussis six awards at Thessaloniki IFF, as well as five IRIS – Greek Film Academy Awards. While travelling alone to an unknown destination, Elena unexpectedly finds herself on a ferry to Kefalonia. There, she will share her thoughts and burdens with Antonis, a man she randomly meets on board. The two of them decide to wander around the island in search of a good place to bury Antonis’ metal box.

A day later, on September 10, Masquarade will be presented, a French production by Nicolas Bedos about Adrien, a former dancer whose career was shattered by an accident, who now spends his days as an escort to Martha Duval, a rich former movie star. Things are turned upside down when Adrien meets Margot and falls in love with her.

This will conclude the Rialto Cinema nights for 2024 but fear not, a rich September agenda is underway at the Limassol theatre.
