This year, residents of Cyprus are not threatened with water interruptions due to the launch of decreasing plants that arrived from the UAE. Three of them began to work at the beginning of last week. Nine more will be connected to the water supply networks in the near future. This statement was made by the director of the Department of Development of Water Resources, Yorgos Kazandisis.
One installation in which another technology is used requires other technical skills, so it has not yet been engaged. In mid -August, another decreasing mechanism will begin to work, also delivered from the UAE. Thus, all together they will be able to produce 15,000 cubic meters of water per day.
New desalination installations will work in the regions of Limassol and Paphos, but their capacities will be enough to supply all regions of the country. “The water produced by them will initially be directed along the southern pipeline to supply the regions of Larnaki, Famagusta and Nicosia,” Kazandzis said.
In addition to these attitudes in Limassol, two more will begin to work by the end of the year - in the port and on the Garillis River. Each of them will produce 10,000 cubic meters of water per day. Contracts for both projects will be signed in the near future.
Recall that the new desalination attitudes were provided by Cyprus by the United Arab Emirates and can be used until the end of 2026 as part of efforts to overcome acute water lack of water on the island. Meanwhile, additional wells were launched in the Kuris River Delte and in the Hermassoi region to make up for the deficit.
All these measures will help the authorities not resort to disconnecting water. However, this does not cancel the recommendations wisely to use water in everyday life. Here are some tips on how to do it.
In the kitchen:
- Use the dishwasher and washing machines only at full load. - If you wash the dishes manually, dial water in a sink or a basin, and do not wash it under running water. - Do not defrost the products under a stream of water, it is better to do it in the refrigerator (the temperature in it is higher than in the freezer).
In the bathroom:
- Take a shower instead of a bath, this reduces the water consumption by 2-3 times. - Close the crane while brushing your teeth or shaving. - Install economical nozzles for shower and mixers, they reduce water consumption without loss of pressure. - Follow the serviceability of plumbing: a dripping tap or leaking tank can spend dozens of water liters per day.
In the toilet:
- Use a dual -mode drain system. - Place an additional voluminous object (for example, a plastic bottle of water) in a drain tank to reduce the consumption for one use.
In the garden:
- Water plants in the early morning or in the evening to reduce evaporation. - Use drip irrigation - it is much more economical to hose or watering can. - Give preference to drought -resistant plants. - Use water from washing vegetables or rinsing fruits for watering plants. - Collect rain water for watering the garden.
