In Cyprus, an outbreak of seasonal infections is expected during the Christmas and New Year holidays

The number of cases of seasonal infections is increasing in Cyprus. More and more patients are turning to family doctors. “With the return of students from abroad in recent days and with the festive feasts we are having at home, the number of cases, especially of flu and Covid

-19, will increase,”

President of the Cyprus Association of Family Doctors Mary Avraamidou.

“We very quickly forgot the lessons learned from the coronavirus pandemic. Even today, with symptoms, most people forget to get tested to find out what they might be infected with and protect others, admits Mary Abrahamidou.

In Cyprus, an increase in the number of visits to emergency departments complaining of symptoms of infectious diseases has been recorded. The number of hospitalized patients has increased.

“Those who have [flu] symptoms and want to visit loved ones in hospital should refrain from doing so. This is necessary to prevent the spread of infection or virus,” explained Pambos Harilau, a spokesman for the state health organization (OKYpY).

Doctors urge residents of Cyprus to get tested if they develop symptoms. This will help identify the disease at an early stage and select the right medications.

“There are antiviral drugs that will help us cope with the disease more easily and recover faster,” explained Mary Avraamidou, adding that vaccination is the best method of prevention.
