The administration of the municipality of Amafunta discussed the construction of a shopping center in the Agios Athanasios area, opposite the Jumbo supermarket. While local officials are concerned about heavy traffic in the area, they have not ruled out building a mall.
Let us remind you that it was planned to build one shopping center within the administrative boundaries of the Limassol municipality, and the second - within the boundaries of the Amafunta municipality. Read more about this in the material “Two giants - one street: who will win the trade war in Limassol?”
In the past, the municipality of Amafunta has spoken out against the construction of two shopping centers just 300 meters from each other. However, his position regarding one mall on the territory of the municipality is not so categorical.
Following a discussion at a meeting of the municipal council, the majority (12 to 8) was in favor of the fact that the project cannot be implemented in the near future. A prerequisite for reconsidering this decision is the modernization of Agiou Athanasiou Avenue. It is assumed that the customer of the mall construction project will also participate in the work on the road network. This is precisely the position taken by the mayor of Amafunta, Kyriakos Xydias. In addition, the mayor believes that it is necessary to conduct a cumulative study on the impact of both shopping centers on the urban environment.
As is already known from various materials, the Limassol Mall shopping center will have five levels with a total area of 76,392 sq.m., of which 28,434 sq.m. will be rented out for shops. It is planned to house 90 retail outlets, six kiosks, two restaurants, two cafes and a food court for 500 people with seven establishments. In addition, the mall will have a cinema with five cinema halls. Parking is designed for 1270 cars.
The customer is the Papantoniou Group and a consortium of Cypriot companies that owns Nicosia Mall.
