While some spent the weekend on the beach or in the mountains, others stewed fires, pursued criminals, evacuated people from the Middle East and eliminated the consequences of serious accident. Read about the main events of the last days in a brief review of the news.
Fires. Immediately three fires had to be extinguished by firefighters on June 29 - in a stani, a Pelatus (region of Paphos) and the donicaria (Limassol region). The largest of them was a fire in a Pelatus near the Chrysochus policy. Eleven fire engines and five aircraft attracted its extinguishing.
Theft. They constantly write about beach thefts, however, vacationers take expensive things and large amounts of money with them to the beach. So, for example, on June 28, on the beach in Ayia-Nap, thieves stole a clock and jewelry in the amount of 11,000 euros from a 36-year-old vacationer. The man left a bag with values on the beach, and he went to swim. The police recall that it is impossible to leave valuable things unattended.
Evacuation. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 53 Cyprus citizens who were in Israel and Iran were evacuated to the island or to other countries. Over the past week, 395 citizens of third countries have been taken out of Israel by aircraft. In total, during the action of the Estia plan, Cyprus helped to evacuate 608 people from the Middle East.
Chase. On the morning of June 28, a real chase broke out on the highway. The police noticed in the Khalepianes area (Nicosia) a car driven by a teenager. The driver ignored the demand to stop, instead, going on the highway and moving towards Larnaki. The car was able to intercept only in the saw area. The patrolmen found a 14-year-old young man at the wheel, three more teenagers were in the cabin: 14, 15 and 17 years old.
Accident. A large accident with the participation of four cars occurred on the evening of June 29 on the Kandu-Kivides road (Limassol region). The circumstances of the clash are found out by the police. Fortunately, only one person received serious injuries.
Infrastructure. The new pedestrian bridge across the Karkotis River was solemnly opened on June 28 by the Minister of Transport Alexis Vafiadis in the village of Kaliana. The fact is interesting, then before that, residents were forced to cross the riverbed along a narrow bridge built in antiquity.
