Road chambers - every time in a new place

Road chambers - every time in a new place

The police opposed the proposal of legislators without fail to inform drivers about the places where mobile road chambers were installed. In Cyprus, more is done more than in other countries - van operators with cameras set warning signs in several hundred meters. But the deputies of the Cyprus parliament called the argumentation of unconvincing and demanded publicly reporting the installation places of cameras for each specific day.

The deputy director of the Road Police Department Haris Eurypid motivated the police refusal to support the bill by the fact that such a practice does not have world precedents. “International practice indicates that the installation sites of the cameras should constantly change, the schedule must be unpredictable. This helps to maintain discipline among drivers who everywhere will follow the speed limit and the rules of the road, ”he emphasized.

The police choose the places where the vans with mobile cameras are sent, "based on certain criteria." It is usually taken into account that the van should be visible at least 100 meters. On a high -speed highway for security reasons, it should be parked at a certain distance from the lane. Sometimes because of this it seems that the camera is hidden.

Also, a warning sign informing about its presence should be established in front of the van. “This is not in any other country. Only we decided that we should install warning signs, ”said Evripid. The police conduct checks how the cameras operate the rules on the prevention of drivers, and obliges them to make an oath assurance that they establish informing signs in front of the van.

However, the deputies who got acquainted with the position of the police called these arguments insufficient. “We need a police who are engaged in prevention, not surprises. Patroling should be carried out in an atmosphere of trust, and not breakdown, who will “earn” money more, ”said the deputy from Disie Nikos Georgiu, who proposed a bill. He added that the current practice is angry with the inhabitants of Cyprus, who are sure that the police are trying to fine them in every possible way.
