Medical staff on Monday, December 23, urged members of the public to be especially careful during the holidays and to avoid both excessive consumption of drinks and food and reckless driving behavior that could land them in TAEP departments.
In a statement to mark the Christmas and New Year holidays, health workers wish patients strength and a speedy recovery, while urging the public to be especially careful with their health as both the Nicosia General Hospital and the Limassol General Hospital have become overcrowded in the past few days, resulting in patients have to wait long hours for examinations.
In addition, many patients requiring hospitalization wait more than 24 hours for a bed in an inpatient ward to become available.
PASYDY's General Nursing Department reports that ambulances remain outside TAEP for a significant period of time until a bed becomes available to evaluate patients.
“Although some measures have been taken in the right direction (by providing beds in private hospitals), we believe that the problem should be monitored by the Ministry of Health. Immediate and significant solutions must be proposed to ensure the safety of patients, the correct operation of the TAEP, and the correct professional working conditions of staff,” he adds.
Finally, this once again highlights the problem of the safety of employees working at TAEP; no one is immune from cases of violence, especially these days when they will be away from their families and loved ones.
