The third year of the existence of the “Herald of Cyprus” has become a year when the newspaper finally gained its rhythm, expanded in volume and first turned into open space - not only for reading, but also for communication. It was then that the video club and the library opened in the editorial office - non -profit projects for exchanging films and books.
The editor -in -chief of the Cyprus has changed. She immediately gave a few books from her reserves to the newspaper fund. This was the start: readers brought more and more, so the library of Cyprus appeared. And the new graphic designer brought the technological aspect: he began to record videos on cassettes (then huge cassettes for a video material, the size of a book). So a video club appeared for the exchange of films. Three years later, when I first got into it, there were already two thousand (!) Films in Russian. Imagine what a joy for several thousand Russians permanently residing on the island! Satellite television then cost space money, only the most serious and large companies had the Internet, private houses almost did not connect. Take the movie is a great joy. Our family has become a regular client of both the libraries and video clubs. We wore cassettes and books from the editors with huge piles - these projects were the first breakthrough in history Newspapers and united the inhabitants of Limassol around it.
By the end of the year, there were already 24 lanes in the “Vestnik Cyprus”, new headings and fresh topics, articles, essays about travel and interesting people living on the island of Aphrodite appeared. The heading "Culinary recipes" became constant and broke all the records of popularity. Below are examples of editorial materials. Cyprus has changed, the content of the "Herald of Cyprus" changed.
The stream of people in the editorial office did not stop from early morning until late in the evening. Some came for the book, others-to place advertising, others-just chatting (“talk in Russian”, as readers explained their visit). So the newspaper became not only a source of information, but also a place of attraction. People came for books and recipes, brought letters and announcements, but most importantly - they came for a sense of community.
Many years have passed since then. And you are now reading a series of articles about the history of the newspaper "Bulletin of Cyprus", prepared for the 30th anniversary of our publication.
