When you conceive an advertising newspaper, you do not expect that it will change someone's life. In July 1995, Cypriot Neophytos Georgiadis agreed with the Russian -speaking married couple to release the first issue of the newspaper of ads. There was no editorial column and news in it, only announcements. But it was this release that became the beginning of history, which has been going on for 30 years.
The first issue of the "Herald of the Cyprus", which was released on July 21, was turned out for three weeks. They developed a newspaper’s layout, invented a logo, collected advertisements and announcements ... The newspaper was conceived as exclusively an advertising publication: it had only 16 lanes with private ads and a brief telephone reference book with useful numbers.
There were only two people in the team of the founders: Mikhail and Olga Mironov, a little later, after a few issues, Sergey and Leila Salafuntidis joined the work. The owner of the newspaper was Cypriot Neophytos Georgiadis - hence the letters N.G. In the name of the company: N.G. Cyprus Advertiser Ltd.
In the future, I deliberately will not call the names of the rest of the employees: “Bulletin of Cyprus” is work, without exaggeration, hundreds of people who later worked in the newspaper or collaborated with it remotely. I'm afraid to forget someone or not to evaluate the contribution-each of those who are involved in the history of the “Herald of Cyprus” put a piece of his soul into the publication.
You need to understand how 1995 was. There was only a small number of people to access the Internet and satellite television, so the newspaper for the vast majority of readers was the only source of information. And almost immediately it became clear that on the pages of the "Herald of Cyprus" there should be not only ads, but also news. Cyprus news - to understand what is happening in the country. News from the homeland - so as not to lose touch with the native edges.
Now it’s funny to look at the mug of the first numbers. But then such a design seemed quite suitable - I saw him in the archival numbers of all Cyprus newspapers of that time. Both the microscopic font of unimportant news, and the funny computers of the articles surprise, and we read the texts of ads today with a smile and even, sometimes, with nostalgia ...
