The issue of abuse of power regarding one of the charges in the trial for the naturalization program was raised by Dimitris Syllouris's lawyer, Chris Triantafyllidis, during today's procedure before the Criminal Court, noting that there should be an exception to this.
Expression of whether it is good to consider at this stage of the proceedings, the court called on Mr Triantafyllidis to raise his request on 16/10/2025 at 9:00, stressing that the procedure should not be extended for a long time.
According to Mr Triantafyllidis, the issue arises from the fact that the first category was signed by the Assistant Attorney General, who participated in the Council of Ministers when making a decision to naturalize the case. He noted that if the abuse of power is proven and the category is excluded, the final speeches will be shorter.
The court expressed his concern that Mr Triantafyllidis raised this issue, and the case has already been completed and only the final speeches on the part of the defendant and defense are left. He also said that if the case was examined as a whole, the procedure may not have to be divided at this stage, excluding a category of final speeches.
However, the lawyer of the Republic, Harris Karaolidou, noted that the evidence was in the knowledge of the defense from an earlier stage of the process and that Mr Triantafyllidis could have raised the issue earlier.
Ms. Karaolidou also said today that, after examining the court's ruling on lawyer Andrea Pittatzis, he had no intention of proceeding with another step, something he had reserved last Friday, following the announcement of the decision.
Following the appointment of the next trial on 16/10, Christakis Giovannis's lawyer George Papaioannou noted that his client, given that the process would be completed today with the final speeches, had planned to undergo medical intervention. As a result, he made a request to the court not to attend the next trial, but assured the court that he could have a telephone conversation with his lawyer if necessary.
