In November, the Audit Service of the Republic of Cyprus will conduct surprise inspections with questionnaires in government institutions

In November, the Audit Service of the Republic of Cyprus will continue to conduct unannounced on-site inspections of government institutions. Their main goal is to find out how residents of Cyprus are served in government agencies, how quickly employees respond, whether it is convenient for them to receive services, and whether they are satisfied with communication with officials. General Auditor Andreas Papakonstantinou informed the members of parliament about this.

“We have already started conducting surprise inspections on site, and not only during regular business hours. We want to make it clear that services should be provided 24 hours a day with the same level of quality and efficiency,” explained the head of the audit service.

According to Andreas Papaconstantinou, public hospitals were first in line for inspection.

To assess the work of government agencies, a simple and understandable questionnaire was developed, which auditors will ask visitors to government agencies to fill out. The test phase of the survey will take place in November, and the results will be known in January 2026. If this method of monitoring the quality of work of the public sector confirms its effectiveness, it will be used regularly.

The Auditor General did not explain in which government institutions the test period will take place. Andreas Papaconstantinou stressed that the purpose of the audit is to help the state work better. The obtained data will be transferred to ministries and departments to improve the quality and accessibility of public services.
