In Mexico, at least thirteen people were killed and 98 injured when a passenger train derailed in the state of Oaxaca. As the local authorities announced, the train carrying two hundred and fifty people had departed from Salina Cruz bound for the state of Veracruz. The railway line was inaugurated in 2023 and connects the coasts of the Pacific Ocean with those of the Atlantic Ocean. The causes of the train tragedy are being investigated by members of the federal prosecutor's office in Oaxaca in collaboration with experts and police.
On December 20, on the same railway line, a train collided with a truck carrying goods, with no casualties reported.
