Satellite images released by NASA show significant changes in Cyprus's landscape over the course of a year. In March 2026, Aphrodite Island looks noticeably greener than it did at the same time last year.
NASA proposes to compare three images of Cyprus taken from space on March 12, 2025, August 23, 2025 and March 11, 2026.
The image taken in March last year shows the island with extensive green vegetation after winter rains. The image from August 2025 shows the effects of the summer drought. After prolonged heat and limited rainfall, the island appears yellow as the sun has destroyed much of the greenery. The third image, which was taken in March this year, shows that after heavy rains in February and March, the island has turned green again thanks to meadow grasses.
