TEPAK: Exhibition of works by students of the Department of Fine Arts at the Carnival Museum

The CARNE\VALE exhibition at the Carnival Museum consists of a set of visual works by students of the Department of Fine Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK), and proposes a contemporary, critical visual intervention on the Limassol carnival tradition.

Through the eyes of young visual artists, the carnival is approached as a complex social phenomenon that leaves traces in the urban fabric and the collective identity of the city.

The exhibition focuses on the "second" and "third" effects of carnival: the isolation that can be experienced in the crowd, the performative and superficial joy, the disguise of political criticism, the commercialization of tradition, but also the environmental consequences of the celebration.

Through videos, soundscapes, interactive projects and installations, the students attempt to redefine the space itself as a field of reflection. The public spectacle of the carnival becomes an occasion for personal narratives and social commentary, building a dialogue between the mask/mask and identity, the ephemeral and the lasting, the celebration and its effects on the city and its inhabitants.

The exhibition will be hosted at the Carnival Museum, at the "Panos Solomonidis" Municipal Cultural Center. The opening will take place on Saturday 28th March at 19:00 and the exhibition will run from 28th March to 4th April.
