Vaccinations continue as part of the treatment of foot-and-mouth disease

Vaccinations against foot-and-mouth disease continue, with the second dose proceeding to 37.6 percent of cattle and 10.6 percent of sheep and goats, veterinary services said.

The representative of the veterinary services, Sotiria Georgiadou, told RIK that there are no new cases so far, while the pig vaccines have already been received.

A total of 28,516 sheep and goats and 1,910 cattle have been killed. At the same time, on the occasion of a video that was made public, Mrs. Georgiadou stated that in situations where the animals are large and dangerous, the game and fauna service has the right to shoot to complete the killing.

Speaking to RIK, the head of the scientific committee, Stavros Malas, pointed out that the local breeds are of incredible genetic value, they do not exist anywhere in the world and they must be protected. He appealed to non-experts not to urge people on options such as animal slaughter.
