Sigma: Cyprus police officers leak businessmen to the underworld

In the evening report on October 22, Sigma TV channel

reported

that the police of the Republic of Cyprus are “leaking” information about the financial condition of businessmen to the underworld. As a result, representatives of crime demand c

entrepreneurs money for "roof".

On the morning of October 23, police said the information in Sigma's report was untrue, calling it "fake news." According to her, the letter from police headquarters dated May 20 was issued to inform all employees about the procedures to be followed when investigating reports of suspicious transactions.

In particular, the source of information must not be disclosed under any circumstances.

— The interpretation of the contents of the circular by the media is misleading and creates false impressions. The circular does not address leaks, but only establishes a framework for proper and responsible investigation of reports, the Cyprus Police press service said.
