Non-performing loans decreased

The Non-Performing Loans (NPL) ratio decreased to 2.8% at the end of August 2025, from 2.9% at the end of July 2025, according to the updated aggregated data with the methodology of the European Banking Authority (EBA), published by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).

At the end of August 2025, the MEX index of the banking sector, excluding loans and advances to Central Banks and Credit Institutions, remained unchanged at 5.5%.

According to the data, total FDI decreased at the end of August 2025 by €14 million, to €1.42 billion (excluding Central Banks and Credit institutions), from €1.43 billion in July 2025. FDI of companies was €608 million and FDI of households was €785 million. 

The MEX coverage index of businesses with risk provisions amounted to 78.6% and that of households to 48.9%.

Besides, according to the CBC, the coverage ratio of MEX with risk provisions increased to 62.6% at the end of August 2025, compared to 62.2% at the end of July 2025.

In addition, the total restructured loans amounted to €1.2 billion at the end of August 2025, of which €0.6 billion of loans are still included in the MEPs.
