The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Veterinary Services, is taking additional preventive measures regarding the cases of foot-and-mouth disease in the occupied territories.
As announced by the director of the Veterinary Services, Christodoulos Pipis, after the meeting at the Ministry, there will be 24-hour coverage of the crossing points from the occupied to the free areas, in order to ensure the disinfection of all vehicles.
Furthermore, checks by the staff of the Veterinary Services will be intensified and there will be additional communication with the authorities of the British Bases, the Police and the army.
He also stated that surveillance measures will be strengthened along the Green Line to prevent any illegal activity from and to the occupied territories.
According to Mr. Pipis, a guide with guidelines regarding the creation of vehicle disinfection areas in breeding areas, as well as in livestock zones, will be communicated to livestock farmers.
In addition, there will be new communication with the Australian authorities in order to accept the halloumi cargoes, which are on their way to the country.
It has also been decided to establish a Committee for continuous monitoring of the matter.
It will be made up of representatives from Veterinary Services, and a representative from each group of animal care professionals, as well as cheesemakers.
