The Bibliotropio has prepared for 2026 a series of events centered on the short form, the short story. Through these events we will try to highlight the value and charm of the short story as a form of literary expression. We want to believe that the small area, the concentration, the semantic richness and the narrative economy, elements that characterize the short form, are able to renew the interest of regular readers, but above all to attract new ones.
The first event of the cycle of events with a central theme of the short story has as its main goal to bring the reader or potential reader into contact with the charm of the short story. Giorgos Skabardonis – one of the most important contemporary short story writers in the Greek space – and Yiannis Baskozos, author and director of the electronic magazine "The Reader", will talk about the short story as a literary genre, its historical development in the Greek space, those particular characteristics, the secrets and techniques that make it a small universe in itself, a self-sufficient, autogenous reality with aesthetic requirements.
From the discussion, however, questions related to the role played by the internet in the dissemination of short-form texts, such as the short story, possibly contributing to the approach of readers, but also to what extent and in what way the technological innovations of the modern era affect the functioning of literature in today's era, cannot be absent from the discussion. The discussion is moderated by the writer Giorgos Trillidis.
