The government will proceed with the construction of five hundred housing units, which will be granted for an affordable rent, to families or even single individuals, based on specific criteria, with an emphasis on the new generation.
Speaking at an event presenting the housing programs at the presidential office, the president of the Republic said that the units will be built on state land, worth 7 million euros, in areas in the provinces of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos.
He added that the plots will be allocated through a private sector tender for design-build construction, with ownership remaining in the state's ownership.
At the same event, the Minister of the Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, announced the new Housing Plan for the Construction of Collective Accommodation Units.
The project is part of the Government's wider strategy to support the sectors of industry, tourism and trade and provides the possibility of creating accommodation solutions for the staff employed in these sectors.
As Mr. Ioannou pointed out, the project aims to cover the short- and medium-term accommodation needs of these workers, especially the seasonal ones.
